Sue Scheff: Surviving Cyber Slander, Internet Defamation and more

“A Successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him” - David Brinkley

For those that know me, know that I have been the target of the most vicious and malicious attacks in Cyberspace. Fortunately I was able to fight back and won an unprecedented jury verdict for damages of over $11.M. $5M of it was set for punitive - meant to punish the defendant.

I am contacted on a daily basis from other victims of Internet Harassment and most people are unable to retain an attorney. It can be very difficult when it seems like the entire world is staring at you through their computer screens.

The quote above was sent to me today and I just felt I had to share with everyone. So when those bricks are being thrown at you through cyberspace - think about the great foundation you can build from it!

Internet Defamation Carries a Large Price Tag

People have asked me why Carey Bock continues to slander and post lies about me and twisted truths, well with an $11.3M judgment over her head (most likey for the rest of her life) it seems she has nothing left to lose, so why not? At least educated people are wise enough to see her vengeance and why she continues.

Some people don’t learn from their mistakes. I have spoken with others and received others that have been victims of Carey Bock’s malicious attacks when she doesn’t get her way. I guess I am just added to that list. She continues to write lame excuses of the lawsuit - when she vigorously litigated it for over 2 years - and a jury read through all her malicious and defamatory posts and awarded damages of over $11M.

The truth prevailed as she and her small group of minions continues to write lies and twisted truths to attempt to justify her loss.

Sure - I have made mistakes too, the difference is, I have always admitted them! “Wit’s End!” is a perfect example of admitting my mistakes and people can learn from them!Guess WWASPS/Carolina Springs Academy and Carey Bock have a lot in common (besides using the same lawyers): Trying to convince people the juries made a mistake. Thankfully in both my cases, the truth prevailed.Visit my Podcasts on E-Venge.

Sue Scheff: Internet Slander and Internet Defamation - Protect Yourself

After I won an unprecedented jury verdict for damages done to me online of $11.3M - this has brought me into a new chapter of my advocacy. As a parent advocate, I educate parents on a loosely regulated industry some call - teen help residential programs and schools. After a horrific experience with my own teenager, I become a voice to create awareness to others so they didn't make the same mistakes I did.

Now with this new chapter of Internet Abuse and Cybersafety - I have meet with my Florida Senator several times and we just meet with our Congresswoman. I am very confident positive changes will be made to create a safer cyberspace - help to make people accountable - and reduce cyberbullying through new legislation.

My new position has put me in a public light, and I plan on using it to help others. I am contacted on a regular basis from victims of the Internet harassment as well as many media outlets. This is now a topic that is not going away anytime soon.

Sue Scheff - Learn from my mistakes

It is not easy to admit you have made mistakes, especially as a parent when our kids are involved.

However, it is so important to take your mistakes and learn from them then move forward.

Having an at risk teen can truly put any parent at risk in making rash and wrong decisions.Learn from my mistakes - slow down, think it through - gain from my knowledge.

I am constantly battling the attacks of people I defeated in both my victorious jury trials as well as the Supreme Court of Appeal. Their obsession with me has become, at times, frightening - not of them, but for them. It seems like a true sickness.

At the end of the day - yes, I made a lot of mistakes. I have fought a solid fight and won against one of the largest corporations in the Teen Help Industry - World Wide Association of Specialty Programs and Schools (WWASP or WWASPS).

I further held my ground when a former WWASPS parent received $12,500.00 (which I believe was money to help destroy me) - to go on an Internet Smear Campaign of my family, my organization and myself.

Winning an unprecedented $11.3M jury verdict for damages for Internet Defamation has become a turning point for people that believe that free speech condones defamation.

My mistakes? Trusting. I trusted Teen Help/WWASPS/Carolina Springs Academy - I was desperate and they preyed on that. My story - http://www.aparentstruestory.com/ will give you a more detailed outline of my mistakes.

Now we are in 2008 and through all my trials and tribulations I have become a voice for not only parents struggling with today's teens, but a voice to help create a safer Cyberspace. I have recently meet with my Congresswoman as well as a Florida Senator a few times - and we will continue to fight to provide safety for people in Cyberspace and children.

My first book, Wit's End!, will be out in July 2008. This will be full of inspiration, hope as well as vast resources for people working with today's kids. The second book is in progress, and will be a continuation of hope. With today's generation of kids - hope and inspiration is something you can never have too much of.

I am fortunate that my books are being published by the same people that brought you the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series. I feel honored to be part of their family.

Sue Scheff Admitting Mistakes and Moving Forward

For many people to admit they made a mistake can be difficult. I am not different, but after realizing that others could learn from my mistakes, I decided to speak out and be a voice of experience. Learn from my mistakes - gain from my knowledge.

Whether the subject is advocating for parents or defending victims of Internet Abuse, I have won two jury trials and fought to bring the truth to the top. Taking this step was extremely hard, knowing a lot of your private life will be exposed, but in the end, it has been rewarding and helped so many others to make better choices.
